Understanding Hair Loss

Hair loss is one of the most common experiences women face, yet it remains one of the least talked about. Understanding what's causing yours is the first step toward feeling less alone in it.

Alopecia areata

An autoimmune condition where the immune system attacks hair follicles, causing patchy hair loss. It can affect the scalp, eyebrows, and other areas. It is not predictable, and it is not your fault.

Traction alopecia

Caused by repeated tension on the hair, from tight hairstyles, extensions, or weaves worn consistently over time. It often appears along the hairline. The good news: when caught early, it can often be reversed.

Postpartum hair loss

Affects many women in the months after giving birth. It is caused by hormonal shifts, not anything you did wrong. For most women, it resolves on its own within a year.

Chemotherapy-related hair loss

A side effect of certain cancer treatments. The hair follicles are not permanently damaged, and hair typically regrows after treatment ends, though the texture and curl pattern may differ.

Androgenetic alopecia

Female-pattern hair loss is the most common form of hair loss in women. It typically presents as diffuse thinning at the top of the scalp, rather than receding from the front. It tends to run in families.

Whatever is causing yours: you are not broken. You are here, and that took courage.
