How to Measure Your Head

How to measure your head for a hair piece

Getting an accurate head measurement is the most important practical step before choosing any hair piece. Most fit problems trace back to a measurement that was done incorrectly, usually too loosely, because it feels more comfortable in the moment.

What you'll need

A soft measuring tape (the kind used for sewing). If you don't have one, a piece of string and a ruler will work.

The measurement

Wrap the tape around your head, passing just above your ears and across your forehead, approximately where a headband would sit. The tape should be snug but not tight. You should be able to fit one finger underneath it.

Take it twice

Measurements done alone, in a mirror, are easy to skew slightly. If possible, have someone help you. If not, repeat the measurement and average the two readings.

What the number means

  • Under 21": Small. Contact us before ordering, as most standard caps begin at 21"
  • 21"–21.5": Small-Medium
  • 21.5"–22.5": Medium (the most common size)
  • 22.5"–23.5": Large
  • Over 23.5": Extra-Large, available by request

Between sizes?

Always choose the larger. A cap that's slightly large can be adjusted with the elastic band. One that's too small will be uncomfortable and impossible to fix.

Still uncertain? Book a consultation and we'll walk you through it on a video call. Getting the fit right from the beginning is worth the extra step.
